Done With Swimming For Now...

I'm not sure about this track stuff. I ran track in highschool but I don't remember the meets being so loooooong! It's fine if the weather is nice like the first meet was. Heather took these pictures of Hannah at her first meet. This past Wednesday was a different story. Evidently, when there is a home meet, Sprague doesn't have an acceptable track so they have to use Willamette University's. We arrived at the meet at 5:30 and didn't leave until 9:30! It was absolutely freezing--I'm talkin' long johns and I never wear long johns, they make me claustrophobic--my winter coat with a fleece sweatshirt underneath and 2 blankets wrapped around me. And of course Russ next to me to help keep me warm. It was pouring down rain most of the time--sideways. I felt so sorry for Hannah as she ran the 100 hurdles and the rain was blasting her face. I do believe she said it was invigorating. She has chosen to do the hurdles--and what I have been anticipating finally happened at Wednesday's meet. She caught her toe or more like her leg, on a hurdle during the 300 hurdles and literally did a face plant! She was even in first place! It seemed as if the entire crowd could feel her pain. I really couldn't believe it, but she got back up and finished the race and hurdled every hurdle and didn't come in last...now that's what life is all about isn't it? Finishing the race strong...

Hannah and a fellow hurdler...

Heather took these pictures. I was videotaping so we could later watch it and talk(and laugh with her)a bit about form and flailing arms...you get the idea!

By the way, Hannah didn't hurt her face in anyway. She did more like a full body plant and came away with a scraped elbow, hipbone, hands and some nice bruises on her knees. She's also going to stick with the hurdles. If only the shin splints weren't so bad...
